The Dreaded Accountability Post....

So, since you are reading this you know me and my family.  You also know that I procrastinate like crazy and can justify anything.  And I get frustrated when things don't go perfect (and you are thinking to yourself, "I have seen your house, car, etc... perfect isn't in it Turner!!) and my expectations aren't met, especially if it is because of something I did....  I have found a name for myself, "The Dis-organized Perfectionist."  Get it?!  Disorganized, but I know where everything is.  How does that grab ya?! Now down to the nitty gritty. Are you ready?

I AM GOING TO EMPTY THE DISHWASHER EVERYDAY THIS MONTH.

Some of you are thinking, Good timing since the month is almost over... No sillies, hence my knack for procrastination, I will start this in November.  The other few of you are noticing I stated I will empty the dishwasher.  "Uh Molly, shouldn't you commit to filling it up too?!"  In the words of Maggie, "No, no, no." My husband is starting a 30 day challenge.  He is doing dishes EVERY night before he goes to bed.  Wow what a man!!  All he asked is for me to empty the dishwasher everyday in preparation for his challenge.  My first thought?  "Uhhh, you are doing the dishes, it's your challenge, you can empty the dishwasher."  Second thought... "Well it is pretty awesome that he is committing to this!  I am a blessed lady. (insert procrastination warning alarm) I guess all I have to do is empty the dishwasher every couple of days (we don't fill it every night!!) and I can do it right before he gets home or just before he starts his task."  And already I am getting stressed because I want to be perfect.  I want to do this every day and can already feel myself dreading the first day I miss.  It is a slippery slope for me.

Anyways, now that it is out in the open, I am hoping you all (all 5 or so of you!) will gently help keep me accountable.  I will do my best to no get bogged down by days I didn't keep up my end of the bargain and to just do it the next day.  And maybe, just maybe, I will start practicing this week, so when we get to November I can hit the ground running.....

Love you all!  Thanks for your help!

Our notes from the apple taste test.  And of course... Honey Crisp win!!  We were all pretty much sick after this!!  An apple a  day keeps the doctor away, but 75 apples, well....

  1. Yay Molly! You can do it!!! Then come up to my house and do mine! Hee hee....
I used to be a fanatic about cleaning and dishes. Mom taught me well. For the last 10 years however, my house looks like a sloth lives in it. I tell myself everyday, "OK TODAY is the day I get all the dirty dishes washed!" Then some thing comes up and that's it for the day. I do this every day and sometimes even get half of them done. But there's always a pile of dirty ones. In fact today I really am going to get them done; there's a pot in my sink that is growing something horrible in it and I don't want it to turn out to be some new disease that will be unleashed on an unsuspecting world that kills us all off!
Love ya, get the dishes done before I get there at Christmas!

  2. You can do this! I will pray you don't beat yourself up if you miss a day. I am the same way about that. Si se puede! Did I spell that right?

  3. All I have to say is one day at a time. Don't get overwhelmed with the whole month, just focus on each day. I totally understand about having other things on your plate. As I write I have dishes in the sink ready to go into dishwasher, so no one can be totally on it. However, if you get Bailey and maybe even Will to help pitch in by putting forks, spoons and anything plastic away, it may be fun for them, be speedier for you, and help them to learn how teamwork is better. Niah likes to help put things away(for now) :)

If you create a time everyday ( morning, afternoon or nighttime) to put the dishes away, it may just become a habit. I usually like the house picked up and kitchen clean before I go to bed so I can wake up to a cleaner house and I can immediately put dishes in the dishwasher.

If you end up letting the day go by and you forget, don't be hard on yourself, just get up or stop what you are doing to do it. If Nate is ready to do his part and finds the dishes still there, just have him ask you to help put them away and know that you can always recover by putting the dishes away AND putting the dirty dishes in (if he has to leave). Finally remember marriage is not 50/50, soooo if on some days you can do both then do both, if he can do both then he can do it. Perhaps, you both can work together, while one is putting them away the other is rinsing the dishes that are about to go in the dishwasher. Anyway, I believe you can do it!!! sorry for the long post...
